Meet the Sunrise Staff

I am honored to say I am the Director of Sunrise Children’s School.  My education and career began in Ohio where I worked with the Children’s Services Board and Juvenile Court as an investigator and liaison for children and families impacted by abuse.  From there, I moved to Boston and worked with Wellesley Community Children’s Center directing programs throughout the community.  In 2004 I made my way south to beautiful Charleston.  I continue to embrace my passion for working with children and families through Mt. Pleasant Psychiatry, as a Licensed Clinical Therapist Supervisor.  Being a part of this school brings great joy to my life and I look forward to our continued growth and success. Please know that providing quality care and education for your children are my utmost concern and desire. I am so happy to be a part of Sunrise Children’s School.

Sara
Sara

Hi!  My name is Sara.  I love reading, playing the piano, photography and all things Disney.  I first moved to Charleston in 1983 and have lived downtown, in Mt. Pleasant, on Isle of Palms and on Sullivan’s Island.  I graduated from Bishop England High School when it was still downtown.  In 1989, two weeks before Hurricane Hugo arrived, I moved from Sullivan’s Island to Charlotte, NC. I later graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  I have been married since 1996 and have two teenagers, Jackson and Mary Catherine. My husband works for the United States Coast Guard so we have lived all over the country.  We moved back to Mt. Pleasant the summer of 2012.  I have taught ages 2-5 in preschools in Northern Virginia, Washington and South Carolina.  I love teaching and watching children blossom in the wonders of a classroom of their own.

Paula
Paula

Hello my name is Paula! I have been attending the College of Charleston for the past several years. I am currently studying psychology and one day plan on becoming an occupational therapist, specializing in children with special needs. I have two wonderful younger brothers who I am very close with. I am of Mexican decent and Brazilian decent. I speak Spanish, Portuguese and, of course, English. I am originally from Washington D.C but I love the beach life here in the low country. I have over five years experience with children ages 1-11. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the beach, being with family and volunteering at the Charleston Animal Society. I am so excited to start this school year!

Hello Families!  I am Alison…all the way from England!  I graduated in 1996 with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Nene College in Northampton, England. My first class was kindergarten in England before moving to Washington, DC in 1998.  I lived and worked in DC and Maryland for 13 years before moving to Charleston. I have taught all ages ranging from 2 years up to Kindergarten, in a variety of different schools. I took a break from teaching in 2007 to stay home with my daughter who is in elementary school.  I love teaching and am SO excited to be back in the classroom again.

Charissa

Hi, My name is Charissa! I grew up in New Jersey and I graduated college from Rutgers University. I currently live in Mount Pleasant with my husband, Sean, and son, Connor. Connor is 6 years old with non-verbal autism. Being a mom of a special needs child has taught me love, patience, kindness, and the ability to manage challenging situations. My past experience was the owner/teacher of My Gym where I enjoyed working with children in a fun learning environment. I am so excited to be a part of Sunrise Children’s School and continuing helping children learn physical, cognitive, and social skills!
